With the new building on the corner of Tribschenstrasse and Rösslimatte, the CSS Insurance is expanding its headquarters in Lucerne into a campus. The campus will bring together around 1,800 employees under one roof and is located in the immediate vicinity of the lake, the city centre and the railway station.
The new workplaces will adjoin the prestigious courtyard building at Tribschenstrasse 21 to the south-east, which will continue to serve as the main entrance and will be modernised in terms of energy efficiency and work organisation. The target is LEED Platinum.
Particular attention will be paid to the integration of a listed building designed by Carl Mossdorf in 1933: The commercial building at Tribschenstrasse 51 will be largely restored to its original state and repurposed, while the new building will embrace it and bring it into a dialogue with the open space with the other buildings on the campus.
The design of the buildings and open spaces allows for a subtly differentiated sequence that develops both the strengths of neighbouring structures and those of the solitary building. The predominantly timber façades of the new building contrast constructively with the existing building and create a sculptural interplay that emphasises the relationship between the three buildings.
