<Office building «Clime», Basel, 2019–2022, Competition 1st prize

It is not the material but the architectural approach that integrates the five-story new building into the urban context. The wooden facades welcome visitors from afar. The stone bands of Calanca gneiss and the floor-to-ceiling windows of the facades are reminiscent of traditional representative city palaces. The long courtyard-forming flanks are articulated by meanders and a curved canopy, creating an intimate atmosphere for the office and restaurant entrances. Inclined columns transfer the exterior loads to the basement, which was inherited from the PTT building. The hybrid ceilings of the offices, which are pre-determined only to the basic finish, rest on wood beams and columns as well as concrete cores. The stepped roof creates a terrace for the community. A large steel spiral staircase connects it to the stairwell.
